It’s that time of year again - the day where you can appreciate your dad a little bit extra... because he deserves it. There’s no denying this past year has been more stressful than most and because of that, we’ve had to lean on the ones we love. Show Pa how grateful you are by giving the gift of a healthier lifestyle.

What does this mean? Well, looking out for one another can come in many forms and focusing on wellness together is an incredible way to do so. Not only will a thoughtful gift like this show how much you care, it could form new habits in Dad’s life that allow him to be more health conscious. Here’s a few examples that may inspire you!

1) Introduce him to new foods

If your father is stuck in his ways and has trouble expanding his food horizons, give him variety! Sign him up for a local food box program that delivers healthy food to his door every week- he is sure to discover some delicious recipes on his own. Take https://www.hellofresh.ca/ as an example. OR take him on a date to a local restaurant that offers healthy options, there are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options popping up that offer amazing substitutes for all of the classic favourites.

2) Get his heart pumpin’ AND meltin’

It’s the perfect time of year to get moving outside. If your Dad already loves an activity like golf, treat him to a round WITH you at his favourite course. Even if you just drive the cart, he’ll love getting to spend some quality active time with you. Golf not his thing? Check out local things the two of you could do together - kayaking, hiking, biking etc. It’s the best of both worlds - bonding time and exercise.

3) Give him the gift of NA beer

If your dad loves to crack a cold one on the deck or while he settles down for the night, encourage him to try the next best thing... non-alcoholic. Craft breweries all over the world are beginning to release delicious non-alc options that taste just like the real thing - without all of the hangups. Low calorie, low carb, no hangover. Surprise him with a 12 pack of Libra here: https://drinklibra.ca/products/libra-beer-12-pack

4) Make sure he’s sleeping well

Studies show that sleep is one of the most crucial parts of being healthy, especially as you get older. You don’t have to go break the bank and buy a brand new mattress for Father’s day. There are a lot of affordable sleep related products that could instantly upgrade and refresh his sleeping routine. A few examples we love - a brand new pillow, a white noise machine, a Fitbit that tracks his habits throughout the night - https://www.fitbit.com/global/en-ca/home (there are even some Father’s day deals on there).

5) Check in on his mental health

Mental health is one of the most significant parts of maintaining a healthy and fulfilled life and it’s no secret that 2020 was tough on the brain. How can you show your Dad a little extra lovin’ this year? If he’s never tried meditation, consider giving him something like a pre-paid beginner yoga class or a great book about mindfulness. Something as simple as a massage or acupuncture could also help him unwind and remove stress from his life. If you’re not able to spend any money this year- why not just sit down and treat him to a nice chat? Listening and being there for him is the greatest gift of all.

However you decide to spoil your Dad this year, he’s lucky to have you in his life. Happy Father’s Day!
