The goal in establishing Libra was to create a non-alcoholic choice that was on the same playing field as the rest of our flagship beers. The Upstreet Brewing craft would not be sacrificed in the creation of this product.
Other non-alcoholic beers are composed by removing, or boiling off, all alcohol after the beer is produced. While this is a frequent traditional method, it also removes a lot of flavour. It was obvious the technique had to be optimized in order to achieve the desired full-body flavours.
The brewing process consisted of a lot of trial and error, two years worth to be specific! Finally, it was discovered that using a combination of traditional technique with unique adjustments would retain the elements of a great tasting craft beer.
The mission behind nailing down Libra’s brewing process was to remove the stigma surrounding non-alcoholic beer. Libra was certainly not going to be paired with preconceived notions of being tasteless and boring. Libra should be paired with dinner with friends or an afternoon meeting. It can be enjoyed while watching a game, studying, or celebrating.
Introducing Libra’s first flavour, the North Cape Pale Ale. At 30 calories a can, Libra is a light, crisp pale ale with a refreshing amount of citrus hoppiness, and a crisp finish. The desired hops and aromas of craft beer are not compromised for containing only 0.4% alcohol. While the North Cape embodies only a fraction of the calories and alcohol contents a normal craft beer would, it leaves you feeling refreshed, rather than run down.
