April 19, 2023

Earth Day is taking place this Saturday, April 22 and we want to help give you some inspiration and ideas on how to spend it this year. Every action no matter how big or small can help make our planet a better place.

1) Do an outdoor cleanup

It’s the perfect time to grab some gloves, some garbage bags and take care of any plastics or pollution you notice the melting snow has left behind. Your neighborhood and community will thank you! Try a local biking/walking trail or park to start.

2) Eat locally

Choosing to eat more locally grown food is an awesome way to help out our planet. Processed foods are high in carbon emissions because of transport, storage and refrigeration. Try grabbing some produce at your local farmers market this weekend- that’s a much smaller footprint!

3) Take shorter showers

Watching your water usage is a really great way to start living more sustainably. Long showers can use up to 30 gallons of water each time- try a quick one this weekend!

4) Avoid disposable plastics

Make note of how many plastic items you use and purchase this weekend. Single use plastics can take up to 500 years to decompose! Try: reusable bags, permanent water bottles, compostable straws and the planet will thank you.

5) Try some plant based meals

If you aren’t vegetarian and often find yourself cooking with meat for every single meal- try switching out a few for plant based meals. The food system is responsible for over a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions, of which approximately 80% are associated with livestock production. Even tweaking a few small changes in your weekly diet will help this issue!

6) Plant something

Whether it be a tree, a garden or some flowers, planting is the perfect way to give back to our Earth. As simple as it sounds, every tree or plant is extremely beneficial to the environment and air we breathe. We want to help make this one easy on you.

For every Libra purchase made until April 22nd- get a free bag of wildflower seeds from Vesey’s seeds. Plant them around your home and watch them bloom this summer.

No matter what you do this weekend, do something small for our planet! Happy Earth Day from all of us here at Libra.
