At Libra, we believe that achieving balance goes beyond crafting exceptional non-alcoholic beverages—it extends to how we treat our planet. Our commitment to sustainability is woven into every aspect of our business, from sourcing ingredients to packaging and beyond. As we strive to find balance in our lives, we are equally dedicated to maintaining balance in our environment. Here’s how we’re making a difference:
Local Sourcing:
We make it a priority to source our supplies and ingredients locally whenever possible. By doing so, we reduce the transportation distances required to bring these materials to our production facilities. This practice not only decreases our carbon footprint but also supports local businesses in the Maritimes, a region that has historically faced economic challenges.
Remote Team:
Our team operates remotely, significantly reducing CO2 emissions associated with daily commutes. This approach also eliminates the need for large office spaces, cutting down on energy consumption for heating, cooling, and lighting. By minimizing our reliance on physical office spaces, we conserve resources and foster a flexible, balanced work environment.
Consolidated Production:
Centralizing our production allows us to be closer to our consumers. This strategic decision helps us optimize logistics and distribution, reducing the fuel consumption and emissions associated with long-distance shipping. By minimizing transportation needs, we ensure that our products reach you more efficiently and sustainably.
Sustainable Packaging:
We are committed to finding more sustainable packaging solutions. Transitioning to printed cans, instead of using labels or plastic shrink sleeves, is one of our key initiatives. This change reduces waste and simplifies recycling. We are also switching from plastic Pac Tecks to box board packaging, which is more environmentally friendly and easier to recycle. Additionally, we are exploring ways to reduce our cardboard usage by sourcing packaging materials close to our manufacturers, further minimizing transportation emissions.
Warehouse Solutions:
Setting up warehouses close to our manufacturers is another step we’re taking to reduce our carbon footprint. This strategy ensures efficient storage and distribution, cutting down on the environmental impact associated with transporting our products over long distances.
Donating Spent Grain:
Over the years, we have donated more than 570,000 kgs of spent grain to cattle farmers on the Island. This practice not only supports local agriculture but also helps reduce waste from our brewing process. By providing a sustainable feed option for livestock, we contribute to a more circular economy.
Tree Planting:
To offset our paper usage, we plant trees every year. This initiative not only helps combat deforestation but also promotes biodiversity and absorbs CO2, playing a crucial role in mitigating climate change.
Foil Recycling Program:
We participate in a foil recycling program at Hops Connect, reinforcing our commitment to reducing waste. By recycling foil materials used in our brewing process, we support a circular economy and minimize the amount of waste sent to landfills.
What It Means to Be a B Corp:
As a B Corp, we meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability. This certification reflects our dedication to balancing profit with purpose and ensuring that our business practices benefit all stakeholders, including our workers, customers, community, and the environment.
Sustainability and B Corp Certification:
At Libra, sustainability is not just a buzzword; it’s a core value that guides everything we do. We are committed to making a positive impact on the planet while delivering the highest quality non-alcoholic beverages to our customers. Together, we can create a more balanced and sustainable future.
Thank you for supporting Libra on this journey towards a greener, healthier world.
