December 14, 2022

We are halfway through December already- can you believe it? While we are embracing the hustle and bustle of this month, we at Libra are already thinking about Dry January.

Beginning the New Year with a clean slate and setting yourself up for success for the rest of the year is the perfect way to kick things off in 2023.

Dry January can be an excellent time to reevaluate your relationship with alcohol and make healthy changes that last beyond the first 30 days of the year. (Of course it’s intimidating, especially coming out of a party heavy December)

We encourage you to make Dry January your own.

It doesn’t have to be about cutting out booze completely- it could be just slowing things down, only having a sip on special occasions or saying no to a drink during a weekday. It’s all about moderation!

As long as the goals you set for yourself are attainable, you’re going to feel rewarded with the outcome. Here are a few tips and tricks we have for going in to Dry January if you’ve never participated before:

  •  Have a support system

Whether it’s a friend or family member who is taking the pledge with you, or even just someone to lean on when you find it challenging, support is absolutely going to help this change feel less drastic.

  •  Set some goals

Figure out what your intentions are and either write them down, say them out loud or tell them to a friend. This will help them stick!

  •  Have an alternative

There is no shortage of delicious non-alcoholic options out there to help you out this month. Use this time to try out some new NA drinks- here are a few of our favourites!

  •  Practice saying no

Perhaps one of the more challenging aspects is navigating a social setting that you would normally drink alcohol in. Prepare some quick answers for if anyone asks why you aren’t drinking or if you want a drink. We have a few ideas here.

  •  Don’t be hard on yourself

If you slip up, that’s ok! This month doesn’t need to be all or nothing. Take things in stride and try again.

Let's do this. Enjoy the rest of your holidays and we will see you in January!
